Unemployment

The word unemployment is heard many a times in the present days of recession. When a person is ready to work and can not find the job for work, this situation is called as the unemployment. The person is capable of doing a job; he is seeking the job and still cannot get the job. For a capable person this situation of unemployment is most unfortunate. You are forced to remain idle. You cannot make money. That puts tremendous psychological pressure on your mind. There is little food to eat. This eventually leads to malnutrition. Many a times the unemployed person is not in apposition to pay for his mortgage installments. This leads to the home foreclosure. The unemployed person may have to face the state of homelessness. This leads to loss off self esteem. It is natural that ultimately all this leads to depression. If many people become unemployed in the society, then it is natural that there will be social unrest. All this is not good for the stability of the peaceful society.

This topic of unemployment is pretty vast. Let us try to understand some of the points involved in the topic of unemployment. There is something called as unemployment insurance. But the benefits of this type of scheme obviously very limited. These benefits cannot last forever. Ultimately the person facing the unemployment has to face the reality. He is forced to tap programs like the food stamps. The reality is accumulation of the debts. There are some social effects of the rampant unemployment. The first is about the fear that foreign people will take away our local jobs. This is a major reaction. This leads to protectionism. The politicians try their level best to create jobs for the local people. In these efforts they try to block the jobs for the foreigners. But in all this, some facts are not taken in to considerations. For example, the foreign people are generally offered for a very high skilled job. These foreign people are extremely productive. This is the reason behind offering them an employment. When inefficient local people get the same job because of the political inference, the economy as whole suffers due to the inefficiency. This is again for the economy already fighting the recession.

Some times there are very low grade jobs which are taken up by the foreign workers. If same very lowly paid jobs are offered to the local people it leads to underemployment. The people deserve better jobs but are forced to accept the jobs that are of lower skills and lower payment. This again means that you are misusing the work skills of the people. This is again not useful to the economy as whole ultimately. There are different ways of analyzing the causes of the unemployment. Similarly there are different ways of changing this state of unemployment. It is not possible to discuss all that in this short article on unemployment.
